I get accused ...

... of many things but, specifically, of not appreciating Mark Steyn sufficiently. Actually, I do appreciate him but not always. He gets many things wrong in my opinion, being a hack like the rest of us and not the Messiah. (Neither are Obama or our own mini-version, Daniel Hannan MEP, whom I also appreciate when he does things well.)

This, however, is absolutely right. The Obama presidency is shaping up to be the weirdest in that great republic's history.

Via Instapundit, we get the story that Obama's extraordinarily large entourage that came to London and has now, presumably, gone on to Strasbourg, has depleted the US Air Force at a time when it is engaged in two wars. Any misunderstanding, these days, means real trouble.

So what has this to do with the EU? Yes, all right, I shall launch that shadow blog any minute. However, what happens on the other side of the Pond matters to us. America is still our greatest ally and leader of the Western world. Whether it will be all of that as this Administration unrolls remains to be seen.
